| God didn’t create marriage to make us happy, He created marriage to make us holy. Most people think that marriage is the ultimate pinnacle of happiness and fulfillment. If we are to think this way, then we are truly misguided. Marriage is a gift given by God to man for the purpose of learning and understanding what it truly means to love. It’s true, that love is blind but marriage is an eye-opener. I once heard someone say, “If you want to serve Jesus, stay single. If you want to become like Jesus, get married!” Meaning, in a covenant relationship, in a marriage, in a holy commitment of two people forever unified till death do us part… it means daily sacrifice, compromise, patience, kindness, faith, trust, forgiveness, selflessness, understanding, seeking for the highest good of the one you love above your own happiness and joy… this is love, this is what marriage will force you to do if you are willing to live up to the challenge. Marriage is not a bed of roses, instead, it is filled with challenge, struggle and at the same time opportunity. Because if you can truly stay faithful, love no matter what, learn to love one another whatever the cost, than true love can be experienced… and that is something you can’t buy, something you can’t create, it is only something that can be earned and then cherished forever. |
